Music Lessons for Home Schooling Families
Are you looking for a way to supplement and fulfill your home school curriculum for music classes? We offer private and group classes in keyboard, woodwinds, strings, guitar, voice and theory.
Group lessons: With the various music curriculums that are available from self teaching books to method books, our group lessons offer music lessons as a terrific alternative or supplement to what you may be wanting for music education in your homeschooling. Many homeschooling families have more than one child that are interested in music, our groups offer a less expensive, but equally as rewarding, option to private lessons while still maintaining a well rounded musical experience and foundation to music understanding.
Children will begin their training in a well rounded musical atmosphere. The curriculum includes rhythmic notation, music reading, signs and symbols, basic ensemble skills, ear training, singing and introduction to the percussion, winds and string families. After this course, students would be able to select and work on an instrument of their choice, in a private or mini-masterclass setting. A large part of their music understanding would already be in place and the move to private or mini-masterclass sessions would be ultimately more successful and enjoyable for the student and more cost effective for mom and dad.
Your commitment to the rental of an instrument, purchasing music and equipment and the fees of private or mini-masterclass lessons and your child's commitment to practice and study, will be a sure one and an investment with a better success rate after attending these Introduction to Music classes.
Private or Mini-Masterclass Instruction: For students who have already chosen an instrument and/or has a fundamental in music knowlege, more individualized lessons are available. These lessons are charged by the time slot and are slightly more expensive than the group options. An introductory lesson/ music review and conference will determine what style of lessons should ensue for maximum learning results.
Classes specifically for home schoolers are scheduled from 12:00 to 3:30 PM any weekday.
Courses that we offer
Introductory Music Courses: Currently Full until enrollment in Fall 2020
Homeschool Chamber Music: Held most Tuesdays for string players to work on fundamental Chamber music skills.
Homeschool Performance Class: (SEE ACADEMY PERFORMANCE CLASS for the same opportunity) Meeting on Tuesdays from 5-5:45.) This class is a performance solo or duet class held to encourage performance practice. It is a more laid back atmosphere than our solo concert opportunities. Students perform and the audience gives feedback. We talk about performance preparation, anxiety, focus, competition vs. solo performance etc.... Students who are not scheduled to perform that class, still come to participate in the discussion and hear the other performances. Parents welcome.
Piano/Theory Lab - Our piano and theory labs allow students to progress at their own rates through their solo repertoire. Unlike traditional piano courses students also develop ensemble skills and learn music theory concepts along with fellow students. The lab can hold up to 5 students at a time and are intended for beginning to second year students. Beginners, must have had the summer Young Musicians training course prior to entry into this class. Transferring students would set up a "meet-n-greet" session to determine placement into our studio program.
Suzuki Methodology (Violin, Viola, Cello) - The Suzuki Method with its emphasis on developing not only musical talent but strong character through a nurturing environment dovetails well with the goals of many homeschool families. The Suzuki Method emphasizes the participation of parents in both the lesson and home practice sessions.
Intermediate Guitar Ensemble & JAZZ IMPROVISATION- Tuesdays during Group Classes
For students working on Suzuki solo repertoire Books 2-6 and building their reading ensemble skills. Mr. Volkers also infuses chords, strumming techniques and tablature into his group routine to keep the ensemble ready for our community venues.
High School Voice classes - Scheduled once a month on Fridays for those students enrolled in weekly Private voice lessons
