Music Academy Group Information
The Academy teaches 85% of its lessons in some sort of "group" format.
String Program: Mini Master class Private Lessons Children will be given instruction in small groups of 3-4, in an hour lesson, once a week in a "mini-master class private lesson." The mini-master classes, are designed to teach the less advanced student, how they can be looking forward to their future pieces. All students and parents stay for the entire hour lesson. Everyone has a job to do. Students and parents should be actively listening to the mini-private session being given and following along in the music, taking notes, and being aware to participate in class discussion. The more advanced player will learn to focus on improving their tone quality and playing techniques. They will be encouraged to play review repertoire with the less advanced player and be expected to perform it with a quality of mastery as they have "moved on." This in combination with the large repertoire groups automatically create a need for children to maintain and polish their "older" repertoire. Parents of the less advanced student must encourage their child to air bow, finger practice, pay attention and read along. They can be taking notes in their music so that it is prepared for their child. If it is pre-marked, the parent can focus 100% on their child when it is time to learn the piece. This method of learning also helps to create a support system among peer groups as well as with other parents. If the parents, teacher and students all do their part, you will find it an exciting, fun and motivating way to learn. Large Repertoire Class : The mini-master class private lesson groups are all combined on Tuesday evenings for a larger repertoire group class. Suzuki repertoire will constitute 80% of the music worked on. Additional supplemental material will be added for school occasions throughout the year. More advanced levels will have scale building, shifting, double stops, etudes, duet and trio repertoire in addition to their solo repertoire. During this group evening, children will be able to experience other areas that our school has to offer. These classes will be designed to enhance your child's rhythm and reading skills, understanding of musicianship and phrasing, ensemble playing and love of music. Tuesday evenings will be full of music and fun.
Keyboard Classes: Our piano lab accomodates up to 5 piano students at a time. Differing ability levels and age levels are not a problem with this unique style of group lessons. All students would work independantly through theory curriculum as homework through the week. During class, these assignments are checked and new pages are explained and assigned. Each individual keyboard is set up with headphones so that all students can practice their music individually or in small groups with children working at the same level. The teacher sitting at a control board can monitor grouping and ungrouping students for the maximum effectiveness. Technical studies, common repertoire and ensemble music can be learned in this style. In addition each child is given private instruction on music that continues to encourage thier progress at their own success rate. e-mail us at maestro@bravuramusicacademy.com. And request a call back concerning lessons.
Guitar Ensemble: In addition to your child's weekly private lessons, students are taught the fundamentals of chord style and finger style playing while working on common repertoire in a small group setting once a month. Theory and rhythm fundamentals are also taught in this creative group atmosphere to make learning more fun. E-mail us at maestro@bravuramusicacademy.com for a call back concerning lessons.
Voice Group Lessons: Voice group classes are divided into 3 levels of ability and held at different times during the week. Students with no experience would take Voice Class I. Those with more experience would take an audition for placement in the appropriate class. Beginning classes are dedicated to natural breathing and tone production. Pieces will be group taught and students will perform in a master class setting. This is where they would receive their individualized instruction. They will learn from the other students' performances and be encouraged to practice all of the topics that were brought up in the session. Sight singing and range building will play a large role in our group classes and students will learn stage techniques that will help them to look and feel more at ease when they perform. Once the students have reached a level of proficiency in these areas, they can be promoted to a more advanced voice class. At this stage, phonetics and diction tools will be taught in order to work on singing in foreign languages. Students at this stage must also be enrolled in our High School Theory/ Piano as a second instrument Group class which meets on Tuesday evenings. This class is to help round out the necessary music education that singers miss in their school programs and will enable each student to progress through the more advanced literature taught in the higher levels of Voice Class. ** Beginning Voice Students who are behind in the areas of note reading or rhythmic understanding, are encouraged to work in the piano and or theory lab with our teacher on music fundamentals. Singers at Bravura Music Academy will be taught in a classical style known as "bel canto," which literally means "beautiful singing." This technique focuses on the natural breathing techniques needed to develop a free and resonant tone. Repertoire will be chosen from the classical voice rep, lyric musical theater, folk song and sacred genres. We will not sing music that you hear on American Idol or today's Top 40. We will not sing pop or country music. These classes are for the more serious student interested on improving their tone, volume and range. We will not use any microphones or false amplification for indoor performances. Lastly, we hold Voice Workshops throughout the year where students can continue to explore their creativity and work with a drama coach as well as accompanist coaches to further their performance and audition success.
Woodwind Lessons and Group Classes: Our beginning woodwind classes follow in the same manner as the piano and voice class style. Beginning groups consist of music fundamentals and beginning technical skills using the recorder. Older children whose longer arms and wider hand span can begin with private lessons on their instrument of choice. A music theory class to coincide with their weekly private lesson may be suggested if they have not had any prior music education. Intermediate students would take a private lessons as well as a group class to further their repertoire, scale and ensemble skills. Late intermediate students would engage in a master class private lesson each week, in addition to their woodwind repertoire/ ensemble class. We are currently accepting students to these classes. Interested students should e-mail us at maestro@bravuramusicacademy.com, and request a call back concerning lessons.
Theory Group Classes: Our Theory Groups are designed for abilities of all levels. In addition to our computer programs to help children review and maintain skills, our individualized classes offer music learning in a fun classroom atmosphere with the use of games, rhythm instruments and much more. Our Young Musicians (ages 4-6), Music Adventures (ages 7-11)and Junior & Senior Music Study accomodates learning at all ages and ability levels. Children can explore the world of music with classes that include theory & composition, ear training, rhythm reading, bell ensemble, elementary piano, music & movement, and introduction to the string & woodwind families with age appropriate activities. These courses are designed to help children and parents with an interest in getting started in music, find the best fit for success with an instrument as well as enhancing the understanding and musicianship of a student who is already studying an instrument. This curriculum would serve as a comprehensive music course for home schooling families to consider for thier yearly school music course.
